Evita. La razón de su imagen

Evita. La razón de su imagen
A collective exhibition of paintings and photographs from the museum’s collection, marking the 105th anniversary of the birth of María Eva Duarte de Perón.
The exhibition proposes a dialogue between works by artists who represented Eva Perón and photographic documents that captured the expressions, gestures and tasks of a figure who transcended geographic and temporal boundaries.
Presented by the National Institute of Historical Research Eva Perón and the Evita Museum Association.
The portrait of Eva Perón was made in 2009 and belongs to “Pop-Art Argentina”, an early series of 11 collages of influential Argentine figures — among them Borges, Fangio and Piazzolla. Having left Argentina at fourteen and lived around the world, Florencia returned in 2009 to reconnect with her roots, and the series came out of that immersion in Argentine culture and history.
It was research into collage and national heritage rather than part of her current practice: she has not used the technique since.
The portraits of Eva transcended historical moments and endured despite everything, consolidating and prevailing over time. The photographs, part of the Audiovisual Documentation Center of INIHEP, many of them unpublished, are the connection with the past. Alongside paintings, collages, and drawings, they present a creative impulse manifested in the Museum’s collection.
In this temporary exhibition designed for all audiences, a selection of works by renowned artists attempts to showcase the infinite appropriations and meanings that Evita and her actions continue to inspire.
Different materials, styles, and techniques once again give form to the works of participating artists: Gladys Abitante, Carlos Azulay, Nora Patrich, Ponciano Cárdenas Canedo, María Silvia Corcuera Terán, Cristina Fresca, Nicolás García Uriburu, Eduardo Iglesias Brickles, Nora Iniesta, Daniela Jozami, Matías Kritz, Mercedes Moréteau, Mauro Nizzero, Nora Patrich, Fernando Prada C., Florencia S.M. Brück, Luis Spina, and Juana Torrallardona. The curators are Viviana Mallol and Leontina Etchelecu.
“This journey to celebrate her highlights common aspects of her public life – her work and connection with children, women, and the elderly – tied to the struggle, courage, and transformative capacity that Eva so profoundly embodied,” says Cristina Álvarez Rodríguez, president of INIHEP – Evita Museum.
We look forward to seeing you from May till June 2024 at the Evita Museum located at Lafinur 2988, CABA. A place to feel the legacy of one of the most iconic women in Latin America.
