Jerusalem

2013

Street photography made in Jerusalem and Old Akko — a city where four faiths share the same few square kilometres of stone.

The series follows the Via Dolorosa and the alleys of the Old City: Coptic houses, Orthodox Jews crossing a courtyard, a soldier on duty, schoolchildren running a corner, bagels stacked in the shuk. Photographed without arrangement, close in, at the pace of the street.

Jerusalem is a place where devotion and ordinary life occupy the same frame — a wall is both sacred and a place to lean. These photographs look for that overlap rather than the monuments: light on worn stone, a gesture held for half a second, the city as it is lived rather than visited.
