Venice Art Biennale 2019: FFH – FAR FROM HOME

Far From Home (FFH) was shown in Pavilion 02, a transnational pavilion for a shared bio and cyber future curated by Tomasz Wendland, during the 58th Venice Art Biennale, May You Live in Interesting Times, in 2019. The pavilion was hosted at Fabbrica H3 by SerenDPT on the Giudecca, in collaboration with the Giudecca Art District.

The installation, by Florencia S.M. Brück with Javier Krasuk and Harro Schmidt, is a polycarbonate portal mapped with generative data visualisation: irregular cubes pushed and pulled by forces driven by data on world population displacement. The portal senses visitors and changes the algorithm as they approach, making them aware of their own displacement and of the 68.5 million people forced from their homes at the time, among them 40 million internally displaced people, 25.4 million refugees and 3.1 million asylum seekers (source: UNHCR).
