Florencia S.M. Br\u00fcck is an Italo-Argentine artist and programmer born to a German mother and Italo-Argentinian father, raised between Buenos Aires, Milan, Los Angeles and Washington DC.<\/p>\n

Florencia explores the intricate connections between the digital, virtual, and natural realms, drawing from her unique background as a programmer in the 1990s. At a time when few women were involved in the field, she emerged as a trailblazer. As the founder of “9th Insight,” a cutting-edge web design company, she spearheaded projects for major organizations such as the Discovery Channel, The World Bank, Microsoft Xbox, and the Smithsonian Institution, to name a few.<\/p>\n

A true internet pioneer, Florencia co-created one of the world’s first streamed concerts, OSOC, on 9\/9\/99. She also contributed to groundbreaking projects such as the development of the first virtual environments for the America’s Cup in Valencia in 2005, and Mediaset’s media player, which introduced streaming TV in Italy. Throughout her career, Florencia has consistently been at the forefront of innovative technology, blurring the boundaries between art and the digital world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Her “Out-of-Body” installation, which debuted at the Kunsthalle Faust in Hanover, Germany in 2020, is a prime example of her innovative approach. This generative artwork employs a visual algorithm to split the human form into two spectra, reflecting the artist’s own experience of autoscopy during a near-drowning incident at the age of five.<\/p>\n

The installation invites viewers to interact with the work, allowing the participant’s figure to become recognizable within the piece. This transformative experience transcends the physical realm, guiding the viewer on a deeply spiritual journey.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Florencia’s ongoing exploration of intricate patterns and networks, both digital and organic, is evident in her “Tension and Interlude” pliage works. In these pieces, she approaches the canvas as an entity in itself, employing a more traditional artistic method. The process involves folding the canvas and applying large swaths of black or colored ink, then unfolding it to reveal the emerging patterns.<\/p>\n

These patterns unveil a captivating connection between art and technology, as they evoke a map reminiscent of reverse-engineered programming and intelligent fabrics capable of recalling their original form. In 2019, Florencia showcased “Far From Home” (FFH) at the Venice Biennale of Art. This thought-provoking piece features a polycarbonate portal displaying graphs derived from data sets representing global population migration. The portal is designed to sense human proximity, adjusting the algorithm values accordingly to prompt viewers to contemplate their own displacement while also raising awareness about the plight of the 68.5 million individuals forcibly displaced from their homes. This staggering figure encompasses 40 million internally displaced persons (IDPs), 25.4 million refugees, and 3.1 million political asylum seekers, encouraging a deeper understanding of this pressing global issue.<\/p>\n

Conceived during the lockdown period between 2020 and 2021, one of Florencia’s most recent creations is “Feedback Society,” an immersive installation showcased at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in the Giudecca Art District. This piece reflects on the world we inhabit, where human interactions have significantly diminished, and a vision for the future emerges from the introspection birthed by isolation.<\/p>\n

Set in a timeless architectural space, “Feedback Society” engulfs visitors in an infinite realm, oscillating between the immediate future and the perception of living in the past. The installation combines analog-digital monochromatic projections to create a visual experience transcending the physical constraints of gravity, space, and time. This infinite, repetitive cycle is continually redefined by analog optical simulations, which are altered by the presence of the observer.<\/p>\n

As visitors witness themselves from behind and upside-down, their self-awareness is gradually transformed through this reflective feedback loop. This engaging experience immerses participants in a constantly shifting “now,” challenging their perception of time and reality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Florencia’s most recent collection, titled “Being Human,” centers on expressing aesthetics within a futuristic context while delving into the process of teaching AI the essence of being human. Employing generative adversarial network-style language, she draws inspiration from the painterly art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The resulting artworks present surreal, dreamlike visuals imbued with a transhumanist, longevity-driven narrative.<\/p>\n

She is a member of the AAMNBA, Asociaci\u00f3n Amigos del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation (SRGF). Florencia is also involved in helping to develop the art community; she is the co-founder of Decentral Art Pavilion an International NFT Exhibition taking place during Venice Art Biennale, she has also donated paintings to help in the fundraising of POMO’s Art Center in Argentina and she has collaborated in several NFT releases to help women\u2019s presence in the application of NFT technology.<\/p>\n

Florencia both creates and collects NFTs on the Tezos and Polygon chains. As a collector, she focuses on fine-art artists entering the digital world.<\/p>\n
